Announcing "Sessions"

Ladies and Gentlemen, we would like to offer you the opportunity to join us for critiques starting in May.

It seems like a lot of the feedback that photographers get is from:

  • Mom (your photographs are beautiful!)
  • Friends (pretty sick, dude)
  • People who don't have a clue what they're talking about (For example: 'It should be added that the iconicity of the purity of line threatens to penetrate the larger carcass.')

By providing you with only positive feedback and complete nonsense, these people aren't helping you - they are doing you an extreme disservice. You need to know that you don't suck at your craft, but you also need to know that there are people who do it better than you and that there is always room for improvement.

While we are not saying we are better than anyone (we ain't), we are not your mom, and while we are your friends, we have no problem telling you that your work isn't up to snuff.

So, thevisualCollective announces the start of a new program aimed at giving you honest feedback from a panel of your peers. "Sessions" will be 30 minute in-depth critiques of a small selection of your images. What did you do well? What could you do better? Post-production, pre-production, concept execution and technical expertise will all be addressed.

We will use print-calibrated monitors to show your images in front of people who work professionally in the industry. We will do our best to have a special guest every month who can provide a different perspective on things.

Keep an eye out for updates in early May.
